Cranleigh is very excited to announce a brand-new initiative, unique to Rutlish School, in association with Limitless Tennis and Cranleigh Tennis Club. Limitless Tennis are looking for the brightest local talent to join our Tennis Academy. Limitless Tennis are the coaching company based at Cranleigh Tennis Club in Merton Park, run by Grant Fellows, an LTA, Level 5 Coach; (the highest attainable qualification). Grant’s vision is to find Rutlish boys who have a talent for tennis and train them to the highest standard of tennis with the ultimate aim of having them compete nationally and beyond. We will open the Academy to players that attend different schools but they must be able to make it to Cranleigh for 3.30pm each day. Tennismark+ accreditation for Cranleigh
Cranleigh Lawn Tennis & Social Club are thrilled and proud to have received the Tennismark+ accreditation from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), recognition of the great strides the club has made, and continues to make, in providing tennis for all ages and abilities . Tennismark+ is the elite tier of accreditation for tennis venues, recognising clubs as safe, welcoming and inclusive and providing a high quality tennis programme, alongside the right environment to ensure the welfare of members.
Open weekend
Cranleigh would love to see you, whether you’re a newcomer or existing member, at our open day this weekend! It runs from 10am on Saturday (9th) and Sunday and features many different opportunities to get on court and a chance to try pilates. Please take a look at this link to book your spot here. Food and drink will also be available on the day and we will be showing the men’s and women’s Wimbledon finals on our big screen (featuring Murray hopefully!).
Club tournament!
This summer we will again be hosting our popular club tournament, with nine different categories. Players arrange their own games up until the final and the tournament culminates with the finals weekend on July 16 and 17, where there is a BBQ and people come to enjoy the sunshine and the tennis in the beer garden. The categories are: men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, veterans’ (45 and over) singles, veteran’s doubles, star juniors (u18) boys, and star juniors girls. When entering, please bear in mind the possibility of playing multiple games in one day on finals day. If you do not have a partner for a doubles entry, please enter anyway and we will try to find you a partner. Christmas opening times and events
The tennis courts will be open as usual throughout the Christmas period from 9am – 10pm. if you need the floodlights on evenings when the bar is closed, let me know and I will do my best to assist. New coach
Cranleigh Lawn Tennis and Social Club is glad to welcome new coach, Brian Griffen. Brian has been involved in tennis both as a player and a coach for over 30 years. With his friendly personality and relaxed attitude, Brian quickly builds rapport with the children and adults he works with.
New coaching programme
Head coach Grant Fellows will be developing the new coaching programme for September so that we can continue to deliver the high standards of coaching and also provide more sessions to cater for different standards. The new programme will be sent out to you by mid-August so you can book onto your classes for the Autumn term which starts on Monday 8th September. Here is the coaching programme for the Summer Holidays which will start on Monday 21st July and run till the end of August. a brief description about the sessions to help you choose the classes you want to do. Club Tournament Finals – 12 & 13 July
Never mind about Wimbledon, Cranleigh’s Annual Tennis Championships finals are on Sunday 13 July. (There may be a match or two as well on Saturday 12 July (TBA)). The full details of events will follow, but the normal timetable is that matches start at 10am with over 45s and juniors; 11.30- Ladies Singles; 1pm Mens Singles; 2.30 Ladies Doubles; 4pm – Men’s Doubles. The Mixed is normally on the Saturday, depending on who is in the final. The Bar will be open from 12pm. Food will be on sale too. We do need volunteers on the day to umpire matches please. This mainly involves keeping the score – players call their own lines. Dear Cranleigh members and associates, Here is an update of whats happening at Cranleigh over the next Month. *Club Championships* The Club Championships are in full swing and there are plenty of matches going on at the moment. Pop down to the club on Finals Weekend 12th and 13th July and watch all of the matches from juniors 8 and under to Veterans. Hopefully the sun will be shining and you can enjoy a nice cold drink in the sunshine. *Open Weekend* Cranleigh Tennis Club are having an Open Weekend 28th and 29th June. You can receive free coaching throughout the weekend, there will be a BBQ, table tennis, pool table, the bar will be open and you can pick up some great coaching and membership deals on the day. Wimbledon Ticket Draw
We will be hosting our annual ticket draw this Sunday (13 April) at 4pm. We have 20 tickets and fully paid up Cranleigh Tennis Members who are also British Tennis members may enter. This year, payment will be via the LTA website. If you can’t attend on Sunday, please ask someone to act on your behalf or speak to Katherine Gillespie (07971 645035) who is organising the draw. Junior members may enter the draw, but must be accompanied by an adult – preferably someone who is also a Cranleigh member.
