News and Events

Due to the low take up of Thursday evening social sessions and increasing demand for separate men’s and women’s team practices, we will be designating Thursday evenings instead for men’s doubles practice on 3 courts. This will be from 9 March. 7.30-10 pm. Ladies Team practice will be on Wednesdays from 8 March. Court1 from 6-9.30. Court 2 from 7.30- 9.30. Other courts are available for booking from 8.30 pm after coaching sessions end. Other social sessions continue as usual on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 7.30 and Sundays from 1.30-4.30. The Committee will regularly review the use of courts. We are trying to ensure as many people as possible get good access to court time.

New Floodlights The planned upgrading of all floodlights to LED will start on Monday 27 March and continue all week (Monday – Friday) and part of the week, beginning 3 April too. This will mean greatly reduced access to courts in the day-time – probably only 2 courts and reduced coaching.  If you are booking courts, please only book a maximum of 1.5 hours. More courts will be available at the weekend. We do not know yet what courts, coaching and floodlights (if any) will be available in during this time, so will close evening bookings after 7.30 pm.The contractors will tell us on a day-by-day basis if any lights will be available in the evenings. We will update members by WhatsApp on the progress. There will be no coaching after 7.30 pm in this period. Any floodlit courts will be used for drop-in socials. Sorry for the temporary inconvenience, but we are…

Hello all,  Cranleigh is working with Dr Jessica Grayston to bring weekly Yoga classes to the club after the February half-term. These classes focus on strength, toning the body, improving flexibility and range of motion. Many people develop injuries from repeated sports, and Yoga can improve certain musculoskeletal injuries. You do not have to have any previous experience or be the most flexible person in the room to start! If you have an injury attorney like this, then it will be very beneficial during any kind of emergencies. The last two years have been a very stressful time for many, and working from home has become the norm. Although this has benefits, it can result in prolonged periods of sitting and tightening of muscles, increasing the risk of injuries and pain. Using a combination of Western medicine, yogic breathing techniques, meditation and physical postures Dr Grayston can help you can improve the…

Dear Members, We introduced the pegboard system to social tennis in the summer. Following the survey results and conversations with members, we decided to review how the social sessions are running as a committee and then decided to refresh the rules. These rules are periodically going to be reviewed by the committee to keep the sessions as enjoyable as possible. We aim for the next review of the rules to be prior to the AGM so please continue to give feedback. Please feel free to get in touch with either Luke Gardner, Chris Roe, Katherine Gillespie, Peter McCandless or Nick Stansby if you have any suggestions or improvements. These are not applicable to the Friday singles session. The rules are as follows:1. When it is your turn to pick a “four” you can pick from any of the first 7 players on the pegboard.2. When making your pick try to…

The new term has started and the courts have been exceptionally busy.Great to see all the members at the club as well as the kids enjoying their tennis under Grant and the awesome team of coaches. We wanted to provide a recap of the club Championships and update the members on a few items. This past weekend (18/19 September) saw the culmination of the Club Championships and we were treated to some good tennis and an excellent BBQ with our resident chief BBQer, David Goodliffe, cooking up a storm. It was tremendous to see so many members come down and watch, creating a great vibe at the club. Before summarizing the results, it would be remiss not to thank a few people who worked behind the scenes trying to get all the matches played and dealing with numerous challenges along the way Thanks to Luke for setting up the draw and infrastructure Dell and…

The ever-anticipated 19th July has arrived and we thought it would be useful to provide an update from the Committee on how we envisage the clubhouse/bar operating. Our club has members of all ages and we ask you to bear that in mind, as we want to continue to ensure the good health of all members. This move to step 4 by the Government does not mark the end of the need for caution and restraint With that in mind The screens at the bar will remain in place Ordering will now be at the bar Masks are not mandatory inside the clubhouse but it is a personal choice We will not enforce check-in but encourage you to continue to do so We will continue to provide hand sanitiser on the courts and at the bar. I would, however, urge everyone to be cautious, as with the continual increasing Covid cases, we…

In the light of the on-going Coronavirus pandemic and the latest government and LTA advice, the Cranleigh clubhouse and bar will be closed until further notice. All formal club social events and group sessions have been cancelled. In addition, Surrey LTA have postponed all league tennis until further notice. Members may still use the courts for social tennis, subject to current and future government guidelines. The club will no longer provide tennis balls and players are advised to bring their own. To facilitate the washing of hands after play, the clubhouse hallway and toilets will be open to facilitate the use of the ladies’ and gentlemen’s facilities. Further updates will be published here, via emails to the membership, and via the WhatsApp groups (Club main group & “Friday tennis”). If you are not on the mailing list or in the WhatsApp groups, please request access via the “Contact Us” page.

Grant, Christine, James & Katherine attended the presentation ceremony for the Surrey LTA Club of the Year this week. Congratulations to all involved.
