Letter from Head Coach, Grant: Dear Cranleigh Members, When I started at Cranleigh, one of the main objectives was to increase the competitive opportunites for adults and juniors. We entered 4 Junior Teams into the Aegon Team Tennis, increased singles match play by setting up the Box Leagues, had more junior events in the Club Championships and I ran junior competitions throughout Spring Half Term. In an effort to continue to increase the competition at Cranleigh, I have put together a competition schedule for the rest of the year. Dear Players/Parents, I hope you have had a great summer and ready for the Autumn term which will start on Monday 8th September. We are looking forward to the new term and seeing you continue to progress. Thank you to everyone who attended the tennis camps, it was a fantastic summer and great to see so many children enjoying themselves, whether they are playing tennis for the first time or continuing their tennis development (preparing for Wimbledon). We have a new programme in place for the Autumn term, lots of new sessions for adults and children. The new programme has extra Mini Tennis sessions for for children aged 3-10 years and Development Squads for all ages. Cranleigh was awarded the prestigious Club Mark Award by Sophie Joinson of the LTA in July 2014. The award demonstrates that Cranleigh is a safe and well run club, providing plenty of competitive opportunities for children and adults. Thanks to all of you who helped the club achieve this.

Head coach Grant Fellows will be developing the new coaching programme for September so that we can continue to deliver the high standards of coaching and also provide more sessions to cater for different standards. The new programme will be sent out to you by mid-August so you can book onto your classes for the Autumn term which starts on Monday 8th September.   Here is the coaching programme for the Summer Holidays which will start on Monday 21st July and run till the end of August. a brief description about the sessions to help you choose the classes you want to do. We run holiday camps throughout the Merton school holidays at Cranleigh Lawn Tennis and Social Club. We work hard to create a great environment for the children to thrive in and build their love for tennis. The children will have lots of fun and play various games to improve their tennis skills.   Holiday camps are great to introduce children to the sport or if your child already plays tennis they can use the intensive week to improve their playing ability. Never mind about Wimbledon, Cranleigh’s Annual Tennis Championships finals are on Sunday 13 July. (There may be a match or two as well on Saturday 12 July (TBA)). The full details of events will follow, but the normal timetable is that matches start at 10am with over 45s and juniors; 11.30-  Ladies Singles; 1pm Mens Singles; 2.30 Ladies Doubles; 4pm – Men’s Doubles. The Mixed is normally on the Saturday, depending on who is in the final. The Bar will be open from 12pm. Food will be on sale too. We do need volunteers on the day to umpire matches please. This mainly involves keeping the score – players call their own lines.  This weekend we have an Open Weekend at Cranleigh LT&SC.   Last year the LTA launched the National campaign called Great British Tennis Weekends off the back of Andy Murray winning Wimbledon to inspire people of all ages to pick up their rackets. This year we are a part of this and would like to introduce people to the club and encourage them to start playing tennis.   Throughout the weekend there will be various coaching sessions for all ages and abilities. I hope you can help us by promoting the event to your friends and family.
