Letter from Head Coach, Grant:
Dear Cranleigh Members,
When I started at Cranleigh, one of the main objectives was to increase the competitive opportunites for adults and juniors.
We entered 4 Junior Teams into the Aegon Team Tennis, increased singles match play by setting up the Box Leagues, had more junior events in the Club Championships and I ran junior competitions throughout Spring Half Term.
In an effort to continue to increase the competition at Cranleigh, I have put together a competition schedule for the rest of the year. Brian who is our new coach will be helping to run these events and he may contact you once I receive your entry confirmation. All entries should be in a week before the event, except for the Mini Red next Saturday.
Saturday 27th September. Mini Red (8 & Under) 1-3pm
This is a competition for all Mini Red Players who can rally and serve. Accepting 16 players. £8 Entry Fee.
Saturday 4th October. Mini Orange Parent and Child Competition. 1-4pm
This competition is for Juniors aged 8/9 years and a parent but if they play a good standard of Mini Red or they are in our Mini Green squads they can also enter with their parents. £10 per team.
Saturday 11th October. American Doubles Event. 1-4pm
Full Members Only. This is a doubles event where you play with a different partner and against different opposition in every fixture and score individually. For example, Bob and Rita beat Jim and Sarah 6-4. Bob and Rita would receive 6 points each and Jim and Sarah would win 4 points each. They would then play with a different partner and at the end of the match, they would add their game score to their own individual score and this continues throughout the competition. The winners are the ones with the most games won. £8 Entry Fee.
Saturday 25th October. Davis Cup. 12 – 5pm
Full Members Only. Davis Cup format is a team event consisting of Singles and Doubles. From those that enter, I will arrange the teams and have players ranked from 1-4 in their teams. Whoever you play against, you will play against the same ranked player in either a singles or doubles match (either a short set or maximum of 7 games) and you will play against all of the other teams. Hopefully we will have at least 16 players enter to form 4 teams. I’m not sure how long this will take until I have all of the entries. If you would like to enter please let me know. £8 Entry Fee.
Saturday 15th Novermber. Mini Orange/Green Competition
This is a competition for all players in our Mini Orange or Mini Green squads. £8 Entry Fee.
Saturday 29th MOVEMBER. Competition/Charity Event. 1-4pm
I’m sure by now that everyone has heard of Movember. As explained on the Movermber Website ‘There are few things that go together better than a good game and a great moustache. Movember brings together all teams, from the Sunday social to the big league pros, to take part and have some fun with the moustache while raising funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health’. We will run a competition for Juniors (aged 12+) and Adults and you all must play tennis with a Mo, either by growing it or sticking one on. Fake Mo’s will be provided on the day and all proceeds from entry fees and donations will go to the Movember charities. £8 Entry Fee.
Thursday 1st January. American Doubles Event. 1-4pm
All members welcome. Entry Fee to be confirmed.
Please let me know if you or your children would like to enter any of our Autumn/Winter competitions.
Kind regards,
Grant Fellows
