Well done to the 3rd team, who finished 3rd in their division this summer, level on points with Riddlesdown in 2nd but missing out on promotion by one set.
The league started brightly with the normal four – Joel & Martin and Jayson & Usman – winning 3-1 at home to Reedham Park 3rds.
Nao stepped in for Joel, who was interrailing, in a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Riddlesdown 1sts. And Ali stepped for Joel (work) in another draw, at home to Purley 7s.
The regular four returned for the match at Raynes Park 1sts, but the home team, who stormed the division, were too strong, winning 4-0.
An unusual four of Martin, Tony, Joel and Pepe, patched together because of the short notice arrangements, finished the season on a high, though, beating Telford Park 3rds 4-0.
Tony, in a one-off return from niggling injury, and Martin rolled back the years, reprising their unbeaten record from their doubles partnership three to five years ago with straight sets wins. And Pepe played particularly well to help two tie break wins over decent opposition because he was basically hobbling from a knock from football.
