Finals weekend

Finals weekend
Cranleigh’s finals weekend featured some very hot weather – and just as sizzling tennis.

Vincent Van Der Hoeven won the coveted men’s final, narrowly beating John Sprinks, in a hard-fought three-set victory.
In the match before, in searing 30+ temperatures, Martin Williams recovered from losing the first set to take the veteran’s title from Dave Forward.
Martin’s comeback was made more impressive by the fact he won the veterans doubles title as well just an hour or so before – him and Greg Cooper beating Alan Denman and Steve Wiggins in three sets.
The men’s doubles trophy went to Chris Chapman and Tom Fallis by way of a walkover, as unfortunately Kevin Bailey had to pull out with a calf strain! The mixed doubles title went to Alan Denman and Julie McNair, defeating Tim Jones and Holly Campbell.
There were more close ties in the juniors finals, which both featured some impressive tennis which bodes well for the club and the youngsters themselves.
Nick Stansby beat Jack in the star juniors, and Sophie Gallagher beat Catrina McNair in three sets.
Unfortunately Louise went down with a nasty bug on Saturday night, meaning Julie McNair took the singles title, with the doubles having been postponed.
