Well done to all the junior finalists in the club tournament. Both matches were very close and featured some impressive tennis, which bodes well for the club and the youngsters themselves. Nick Stansby (far left) beat Jack Davies, and Sophie Gallagher (far right) beat Catrina McNair in three sets.

Well done to the Under 14 Boys, who won their division in the Surrey Aegon Leagues. They lost their first match 6-0 to a very strong Leatherhead team, but recovered well to win the remaining games 4-2 against Telford, one in a walkover, and, in the final game, 5-1 away at Reigate…    

Star Junior Tom Fallis won the Open Junior tournament at Pitt Farm Tennis Club, Guildford. He beat several higher ranked juniors on the way, so now has boosted his ranking to 8.2. Well done Tom.

Cranleigh’s finals weekend featured some very hot weather – and just as sizzling tennis. Vincent Van Der Hoeven won the coveted men’s final, narrowly beating John Sprinks, in a hard-fought three-set victory. In the match before, in searing 30+ temperatures, Martin Williams recovered from losing the first set to take the veteran’s title from Dave Forward. Martin’s comeback was made more impressive by the fact he won the veterans doubles title as well just an hour or so before – him and Greg Cooper beating Alan Denman and Steve Wiggins in three sets. The men’s doubles trophy went to Chris Chapman and Tom Fallis by way of a walkover, as unfortunately Kevin Bailey had to pull out with a calf strain! We have been awarded funds from Pro Active South London as part of the lasting Olympic legacy ‘Keeping the Flame Alive’ to get more people involved in sport. We are starting two new adult coaching groups for just £1 per person per week for 6 weeks. The special groups are for 6 weeks Women – Thursday 8-9pm (from 4 July) Players aged 55+ – Friday 3-4 pm (from 5 July) Places are strictly limited to Max 8 per group. We will be running our popular Tennis camps all Summer, Autumn half term and at Easter. Camps run from Monday – Friday. Tiny Tennis for 4-5 year olds from 9-10 am each morning Tennis for 5-13 year olds from 10-1pm each day Children don’t have to be members of the club to join in the tennis camps so encourage your friends to come too. They will go ahead regardless of the weather as we have table tennis, Xbox, Pool Table and other games in the club house if necessary. Just a reminder for parents that if you haven’t already done so, can you please sign up your children for FREE British Tennis Membership through the LTA. This means they will receive updated tennis news and early information about competitions, tennis events etc. You will be given a Membership Number. It also means that Cranleigh receives a higher allocation of Wimbledon Championship tickets. Junior members who are also BTM members aged 9+ are able to apply for Wimbledon Tickets in the Draw at Cranleigh, which is usually held in the middle of May. Any juniors playing in the teams this season for Cranleigh will need to have a BTM Number. It is easy to do – just go to the LTA website  and click on ‘British Tennis Membership’.
